ComPoser
ComPoser is my senior New Media capstone. Developed using Microsoft Kinect, Ableton Live, Max/MSP, and Synapse software, ComPoser is a motion tracking application that allows a user to manipulate various instruments or musical effects in real-time using simple and familiar gestures.
There are two parts to the project: a virtual instrument player, and a realtime remixer.
The first, the virtual instrument player, is essentially what it sounds like. Using motion controls and mimicking gestures that are similar to the actual performance of an instrument, a user can actually play something like air guitar and hear guitar chords or notes as a result. The last version of this project included three instruments users could swap between: a guitar, a piano, and a drumset.
The second part, the remixer, allows a user to manipulate various audio effects in a digital audio workstation (Ableton Live) to play with the sound of any given music file like a DJ would do using a mixer/effects board.
The posters below were developed for the promotion of ComPoser.
