Being There

“Being There” is a fictional short story written as an exercise in unconventional narrative. It is also my first real attempt at sci-fi. Without saying too much, it is largely a character piece that jumbles and omits events in a cohesive story so that the reader may infer their own version of events that connect the narrative pieces within the text. I hoped to provide just enough information on this world and this story in an arrangement that could result in a variety of interpretations while still providing enough for any reader to fill in the blank.

This piece was submitted as part of a writing workshop and proved to achieve this effect of varying-but-all-functional interpretations among readers and writers in the group. Other highlights in review included the world-building elements and varied dialogue.
