About Me

About Me

I’m Austin Haughton, a new media designer, collaborator, and creator looking to expand my creative skills and get a professional foothold in booming media industries. I attended the Sacred Heart schools in Kingston, Massachusetts from kindergarten to grade twelve. I went on to the University of Maine in Orono after being awarded their Flagship Scholarship for academic achievement. In my first semester, I felt torn between pursuing a degree in English or Computer Science, but a friend pointed me into the direction of what I was looking for: a mix of both in a freely creative and multifaceted program called New Media. In the years to follow, I received a variety of honors and accolades, including dean’s list every semester and membership in honor societies like the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the highly exclusive Phi Beta Kappa. I also worked in a professional New Media environment in my time at the University of Maine: the longstanding ASAP Media Services, an undergraduate-staffed application and media development group.

Throughout my personal life and academic career, I’ve engaged in a wide variety of creative pursuits. From animating short films as a kid in “cartoon maker” applications, to filling stacks of journals (and a number of school notebooks) with fictional worlds, to playing piano and arranging new melodies from old favorites, to filming and editing comedy shorts with some close friends, and much, much more. Today, with my history of experience and the skill sets to approach almost any medium, I find myself leaning toward audio and video work; the two greatest influences in the development of my creative drive. On a larger scale, however, I simply want to create something new, whatever its medium may be. I hope to create media content and interactions that will leave a lasting (positive) impact on someone’s day. I believe creators are immortalized by their creations, and I have no greater desire than for my creations to last far beyond my time.
